This week at the Attic Outlet, we realized that our property had been inhabited by a mother bird and her four eggs. Her nesting ground is located right outside of our furniture room. The furniture room has a gated entrance attached where customers who are purchasing furniture items can easily back their vehicle up to the gated entrance and load up their pieces without us having to haul the heavy pieces throughout the store.
While some of our employees were raising the gate one day, they discovered this beautiful bird and her eggs. We discovered that the bird is a Killdeer. These birds are commonly found in golf courses, lawns, and parking lots. They have beautiful stripes that are printed on their feathers and they produce stunning speckled eggs.
After watching this beautiful bird to monitor her behavior, we quickly realized how protective she was over her eggs. These birds are known for flailing around, acting like something is wrong with them so that the people nearby will focus their attention on the mother, not on her eggs. If that isn't a good mother, then I don't know what is. We also noticed how the mother was providing everything for her eggs. The dedication that it took to sit on those eggs day after day must have been exhausting, but she did it in order to protect her eggs.
The more we watched the bird, the more we realized how the beautiful picture of the mother protecting and providing for her eggs was a representation of how our loving, tender, and kind Heavenly Father does the exact same thing for us here at The Attic. He always is protecting and providing for us. He meets all of our needs here so that we can extend those same blessings out into our community. He is always watching over us, keeping us safe and unharmed just as the mother bird does for her eggs. Needless to say, we have become very fond of our new inhabitants of the Attic. Not just because they are absolutely adorable, but mainly because they are a constant reminder of who is watching and protecting over us in our ministry.
